People scaring coyotes away with tennis balls

This was posted November 24th

As a way to keep coyotes wild in Edmonton people are starting to use tennis balls and tennis rackets to scare them away

People are informed to try to scare the animals away with loud noises. If that doesn’t work they are to hit tennis balls at them

We are filling tennis balls with sand to make them the weight of baseballs. Anyone can learn to throw a baseball with quite a bit of accuracy,” said biologist Colleen Cassady St. Clair.

Umbrellas may also be deployed. Umbrellas, think about how weird those are to an animal,” she said.

Similar scare tactics have been used on bears living in national parks and other protected areas for more than two decades St. Clair said. While any kind of noise will do the trick she prefers to throw balls, charge at the animal and yell “bad coyote.”

What would you do if there was a coyote in your yard?

A Murder Hornet Nest Destroyed Had Nearly 200 Queens In It

This article was posted november 11th

When scientists found the first nest in B.C they discovered about 500 specimens living in it 200 of them being queens

The queens can all go and start their own nests. so that means if they didn’t find that and destroy that there could have been 200 more nests with hundreds of Murder Hornets in them

“we got there just in the nick of time” said Sven-Erick Spichiger an entomologist leading the fight to kill these hornets

Scientist think other nests already exist and say its impossible to know if any of the queens escaped that nest and made more.

Whats your thoughts on the murder hornets? did you even know they existed?

Canadas Top Health Officer Doctor Recommends 3-Layer Medical Mask

Posted November 3 2020

Chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam made the recommendation during her bi-weekly pandemic briefing in Ottawa Tuesday.

“To improve the level of protection that can be provided by non-medical masks or face coverings, we are recommending that you consider a three-layer nonmedical mask” she said

According to the recently updated guidelines two layers of the mask should be a really thick material and the middle layer should be a filter-type fabric.

“We are not saying you should throw everything that you have,” said Tam. She just recommends that we add a filtering layer.

She also urged Canadians to wear well-fitted masks that cover the nose, mouth, and chin without leaving gaps

Whats your opinion on the three-layer mask?

“There is a definite trend towards improvement, but with a caveat” Dr. Nathan Stall told cbc news

There has also been an increase in deaths in long term care homes

Someone who gets covid right now is way more likely to survive it than someone who got it in the spring

In the week over half of the cases were among people under 40 years old

Deonandan says that covid has a “lagging issue” meaning it takes time to develop and get worse and then spread from younger to older populations
